Zimbabwe’s effervescent former state security minister Didymus Mutasa has threatened to expose ageing dictator Robert Mugabe’s most damaging secrets if he dares expell him from Zanu PF, gets him arrested or killed, Now Daily has learnt.
The secrets are said to include Mugabe and his wife Grace Mugabe’s looting of state resources, including treasury cash and the Marange diamonds, political murders and a botched 2013 plot to assassinate South African president Jacob Zuma using Lebanese hitmen.
Party insiders said this was why Mugabe rejected demands from the Manicaland provincial executive and Grace Mugabe’s deadly Mazowe Crush militia to have Mutasa expelled from Zanu PF and recalled as MP for Headlands.
On Monday, Mugabe dispatched new party commissar Saviour Kasukuwere to Manicaland to tell the local executives to tame their ambitions as Mutasa would not be removed from the fractured party or parliament.
Kasukuwere also said members of the rival so-called Gamatox militia led by ex-president Joice Mujuru would no longer be sacked as demanded by Grace Mugabe-aligned youths who besieged Mugabe on arrival from Singapore last week.
However, the party sources warned Mujuru and members of her faction that they risked systematic assassination and other ‘mishaps’ as Mugabe still wanted to eliminate them totally.
On Tuesday, Mutasa’s lawyer, Sobhuza Gula-Ndebele was expected to file court papers challenging the dismissals of Mujuru faction members from both party and government.
The failure by Mugabe to get rid of Mutasa and Ray Kaukonde has surprised many as the despot has previously fired 16 ministers on the advice of his wife and mistress Oppah Muchinguri.
